The turntable was used to turn the locomotives around and for maintenance needs. The locomotive coming from Haifa would be turned around to return to Haifa, while the stronger locomotive arriving from Damascus would be turned to lead the eastbound train back on the steep climb up the Golan Heights and the Horan to Damascus. On the “Night of the Bridges” (16 June 1946), train movement between Israel, Syria and Trans-Jordan was severed, and the turntable became the last stop of the Valley Train. This Ottoman turntable is the last of its kind to be found in Israel.
