בתחנה הוקם ביחד עם האוסטרלים גן זיכרון ייחודי המנציח כל אחד מהלוחמים שנפלו ובמרכזו פסל של לוחם אבוריג'יני וסוסו הכורע ברך מעל קברו של רעו הלוחם הלבן ומניח פרחים בידו האחת וספר תנ"ך בידו השנייה. הפסל עוצב בידי אומנית אוסטרלית בשם ג'ניפר מרשל על פי דמותו של לוחם אשנפל בקרב. נכדו השתתף בטקס חשיפת הפסל. מידי שנה מתקיים טקס זיכרון לפרשים האוסטרלים שנפלו בקרב בתחנה מול גן הזיכרון. בטקס לו שותפה שגרירות אוסטרליה בישראל לוקחים חלק מלבד השגריר והנספח הצבאי האוסטרלים, שגרירי, נספחים צבאיים, נציגי משרד החוץ ונוספים.

המעורבות האבוריג'נית במלחמת העולם הראשונה
למעלה מ-1,500 אבוריג'ינים התגייסו לשרות צבאי במהלך מלחמת העולם הראשונה וללא ספק רבים נוספים היו מתגייסים לולא המדיניות הגזענית ששררה בחלק מתחנות הגיוס. אנשים אלו שירתו בהצטיינות יתרה בחיל-המשלוח האוסטרלי ה-1 (1st AIF) ובעיקר בגדודי הפרשים הקלים. מכסת תגבורת מס' 20 עבור גדוד 11 של הפרשים הקלים הייתה כמעט כולה אבוריג'ינית ונודעה כ-'משמר השחור של קווינסלנד'. למרבה הצער, עם שובם של לוחמים אלו הביתה, לאוסטרליה, הם לא קיבלו יחס זהה לחבריהם ולא זכו לזכויות הצבעה. אולם, בזמן שירותם התייחסו אליהם כשווים ושולמו להם משכורות שוות. בשדה-המערכה, "הם היו אנחנו"

The Railway at Semakh
In the land of Israel,
On the shore of Lake Galilee.
There ran a vital railway track,
From Damascus to the sea.
The year was 1918,
The war was moving north.
The railway was the target,
For the horsemen of the 4th.
They rode on in the moonlight,
The attack was planned for dawn,
The Turks had seen them coming,
So a new plan was born.
Guided by the stars,
And while it was still dark,
The 11th and the 12th
Charged the railway at Semakh
The 11th had some stockman,
From NT and Queensland's north.
They were the Queensland Black Watch,
A formidable fighting force.
At Semakh they fought with valour,
And won a bitter fight.
Semakh had become a Light Horse town,
As dawn replaced the night.

And so the desert column,
Rode through the Holy land.
Horsemen from the nations,
Of the Southern lands.
They came from many backgrounds,
Great riders white and black,
Australian Light Horsemen,
United by a brown slouch hat.
With emu feathers flowing,
And moonlight on their backs
The 11th and the 12th charged
The railway at Semakh
Johnny and his German mates,
Fought to the last man,
They tried a fake surrender,
Which nearly went to plan.
The Light Horse fought with bayonets,
Lost 19 of their own.
And 60 brave horses,
That were never coming home.
